BRinK Entomological Expedition
At Kuzikus Wildlife Reserve not only the large wildlife is incredible but also the variety of insect species is fantastic. We are interested in insects that occur during the rain season. In this project we collect and identify specimens to the family level and preserve them on entomological boards.
We collaborate with natural history museums and specialists who help us identify specimens to the genus and species level on site. There are some good chances for new species discoveries -an excellent opportunity for BRinK students to get in contact with museum curators and learn identification techniques.
Furthermore we would like to have a deeper look at the symbiosis between ant and Acacia tree species, collaborating with the University of Reading - UK. For this we sample swollen thorns from trees the ants live in and identify the contents to find out more about interactions between insect and tree.
