African Wild Cat on Kuzikus

African Wild Cat on Kuzikus

Predominantly nocturnal, the African Wild Cat is very territorial. Over the past year we have been able to find out where their territories are on Kuzikus. Therefore we are getting great opportunities to observe them. Their largest recorded prey items include hares, springhares, and birds (up to the size of a guinea fowl). Judging by the sightings, Kuzikus seems to be becoming a regional hotspot for the African Wildcat (Felis lybica cafra).  Possibly also because they are often hunted on some of the surrounding sheep farms in our region.

Students @freciosa & @mvxwell7 spent a year researching Kuzikus and came across some amazing photo opportunities that they took full advantage of. @josh_schlu also knew how to keep Kuzikus busy. Looking foraward to the result of his study: "Assessment of different monitoring techniques for mesopredators in a managed wildlife reserve in the Kalahari, Namibia."

Thank you to the three MSc students at @unigoettingen.

Thanks for some amazing pictures of the African Wild Cat, in this case Freya again 😊
